Songwriting Lessons/Sessions

Over the last twenty years I have worked on several songwriting and co-writing projects. I have studied writing extensively through both structured education and – in my opinion, most importantly – experience.

Through these experiences, I have developed what I consider to be a deep understanding of the natural ebbs and flows of music along with an equal understanding of many creative processes.

I see songs as wholes with the feel and sentiment at the core. This is the aspect of the song which I feel needs to be worked towards and mined, as without it, songs wouldn’t matter to or connect with anyone.

When you picture a song as a whole in your mind, which aspect do visualise first? For me, a song with which I have any familiarity will always have a particular feeling or mood connected to it. This feeling is always my immediate response and recollection. Specific sounds and lyrics follow very quickly afterwards, but the way a song makes me feel is always what I remember first.

As with all art, music can effortlessly connect the listener to a moment in time, a mood, an event, a feeling or any number of other responses. This is what I feel needs to be tapped into when creating music for other listeners and, even more so, yourself.

By sitting in the studio, playing instruments and talking through ideas, I can use my experience of creative musical flow and development to help you create and develop your ideas into fully formed songs with feeling and sentiment at their heart.

A musician should be proud of the music they make. My job is to provide context for your ideas as well as supplying you with tools and methods to progress in your writing.

Lessons and Sessions are priced at £30 for 90 minutes.

Experience has shown that an hour is not long enough to start and end a lesson without feeling rushed in the middle, and there is no benefit in rushing.
